UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY TRANSCEIVER POWER UNIT™ FOR AN/PSC-5, AN/PSC-5D,
MBMMR, AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-150, AN/PSC-14 BGAN, AN/PRC-138, AN/PRC-113, AN/URC-200, RF-5000, MXF-400
Worldwide, universal AC input with continuous operation from 85VAC to 270VAC (not limited to 95VAC) that
compensates for a low voltage AC generator power and unstable AC power source in foreign countries.
Wide DC input range of 9 to 36VDC (not limited to 11V) to include 12VDC, 24VDC, 28VDC aircraft power,
DC generators and to accommodate a low DC input voltage due to: (1) Normal voltage variations of a 12V vehicle battery
that fluctuates between 10.5V to 14.4V. (2) Low voltage at the DC power source. (3) Voltage drop on the cables and wires
between the DC power source and AC/DC power unit.
Full 26.5VDC / 5.25A continuous, 7A peak is available to the Transceiver for full transmit power in any mode
of operation from AC or DC power source. No battery pack is required to supplement the DC power for the transceiver
during transmission! The unit operates with or without the battery! The unit is compatible with the next generation
transceivers (AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-150 and others) that require 100W of power for operation. Auxiliary 26VDC for
amplified speaker and encryption units is available.
One 24V / 2AH High power, high density Sealed Lead-Acid rechargeable battery is included with the
Transceiver Power Unit™ (same capacity as BB-490/U). A second 24V / 2AH battery can be dropped into the unit to double
the battery operating time (same capacity as the BB-390A/U). Battery charge time is 1-4 hours. NSN: 6140-01-493-8357.
Reversible Data/Accessory connector option (part number ABP-DATA-TR-1) for AN/PRC-117F, AN/PRC-138B
(optional) interfaces with the Data/Accessory connector on the radio's rear panel. The Data/Accessory connector functions/signals
are available to the user via a waterproof D-Sub, High Density 26-pin female connector located on the Transceiver Power Unit™
side panel (near the AC Input and AUX receptacles). Reversible for PSC-5 and NBMMR operation.
Safety first! To prevent a battery safety hazard and possible rapid venting/explosion the user can not connect a
primary Lithium battery (BA-5590/U), NiCd (BB-590/U), NiMH (BB-390A/U) or any other non-compatible battery to the unit.
Operator Safety! Separate input cables and connectors for AC input and DC input isolate the AC power source
from the DC power source and prevent electrical shock and safety hazard. Both cables are included with the unit.
Fully automatic self-contained unit. No user intervention or setup is required!
The unit is fully protected against:
AC and DC Input noise and voltage surge to 600V.
External Electro-magnetic interference (EMI/RFI).
Over-Temperature, Over-Voltage and Continuous short circuit.
Internal self-resettable fuses reset automatically without the need for user intervention.
One AC fuse and a spare fuse are accessible to the user without using tools.
The Operating Temperature is -40°C to +70°C to match the transceiver's operating temperature range.
The extended temperature range accommodates operation under extreme arctic or desert weather condition.
Size (9.125" x 6.00" x 2.86") and weight (3.75 lbs) are comparable to the transceiver's standard battery box.
The unit latches to the transceiver as the standard battery box.
